Steve Ruddock California Bicycle Casino renovations

One of California’s largest and most popular card rooms, the Bicycle Casino, is about to get even bigger and better with the planned opening of a 99-room boutique luxury hotel, as well as a number of high end amenities. After several years of planning and construction, and an estimated $50 million in funding, the new Bicycle Casino and Hotel is slated to open on December 1, 2015.

The addition of the hotel (117,907 sq. ft)will more than double size of The Bike (currently 100,000 sq. ft.), and add a slew of amenities that will transform the card room into a destination casino, or as the Bicycle Casino is calling it, a stay-and-play facility, with a hotel, casino, and spa and other world-class amenities.

The Bicycle Casino was founded by gaming visionary George Hardie Sr. in 1984, and currently boasts 185 table games, and a mix of poker, pai gow poker, blackjack, baccarat, three card poker, and more.

Bike 2“With the addition of the hotel property, The Bicycle Hotel & Casino is now a full-service, multi-sensory gaming and resort destination for Los Angeles and all of Southern California,” explains Managing General Partner and CEO Hashem Minaiy. “Our vision was to design and build a sophisticated and luxurious hotel property; an urban retreat which welcomes guests locally, nationally and internationally.”

Robert H. Carter, President of Carter Management Group, Inc., a general partner of the Bicycle Hotel and Casino, describes the new destination as “a true four-star experience featuring modern guest rooms, lavish suites, a resort-style pool with cabanas, a tranquility spa and more. It’s a dream fully realized, a perfect complement to the casino, and we can’t wait to share it with our guests.”

The hotel floor by floor

The new seven-story hotel boasts a total of 99 rooms – 70 guest rooms and 29 luxury suites ranging from the 648 sq. ft. Classic Suite to the 2,007 sq. ft. Presidential Suite that boasts twoBike 1 bedrooms, a formal living room, and a Jacuzzi tub. The guest rooms are located on floors three through seven.

The hotel will also feature conference and meeting space, a full spa, new dining and shopping options, and an outdoor pool deck.

Visitors to the Bicycle Hotel will enter into a spacious lobby designed by commercial luxury general contractor R.D. Olson Construction with architecture by Lee & Sakahara Architects and interior design by Hager Design International, Inc.

The lobby area will feature multiple dining options, a brew house, a coffee house, a gift shop, entry to the casino concourse, and a VIP gaming area.

The second floor is for hotel guests. The floor features a state-of-the-art fitness center, the aforementioned outdoor pool deck complete with private cabanas, and the hotel spa. The second floor of the hotel also boasts some 9,000 sq. ft. of multi-purpose event and private meeting space, bringing the total amount of meeting and conference space between the hotel and casino up to 15,000 sq. ft.

Potential impact

Located just 10 to 15 minutes from downtown Los Angeles, the Bicycle Hotel and Casino is hoping to extend its reach from locals and day-trippers by creating a destination resort that can rival the mega casinos in California and Nevada with the added advantage of its close proximity to Los Angeles.
