Two of California’s most progressive tribal casinos are planning Oktoberfest celebrations next month.

For those who don’t know, Oktoberfest is the world’s largest beer and folk festival held annually in Munich, Germany. Other cities around the world have been known to hold Oktoberfest celebrations modeled after the original Munich event. Picture giant flagons of beer, lederhosen, pretzels, and polka music.

Oktoberfest at Morongo

The Morongo Casino, Spa & Resort in Cabazon will be hosting an Oktoberfest celebration Saturday, Oct. 7. The celebration will feature Paulaner and Spaten beers and freshly grilled bratwursts. The casino will host a number of special games with prizes including a Volkswagen Beetle customized by American Hot Rods Duane Mayer.

There is a $20 cover charge for the festival. Patrons can pay $30 to claim a commemorative stein and their first beer.

Pala’s Oktoberfest extravaganza

Additionally, Pala Casino Spa & Resort in Pala is hosting its own Oktoberfest party on Oct. 14.

The Oktoberfest extravaganza is promising boatloads of beer on tap and food including German pretzels, beer bacon, and knockwurst with sweet and sour cabbage. Plus, there will be 15 beer selections, wine, and cider.

German polka and rock band Hammerstein Musik Bavaria will be performing. The $45 cover includes seven food station and beer sample tickets.

Morongo online poker

The Morongo Band of Mission Indians own and operate the Morongo casino.

This is the same tribe that signed an agreement with online poker giant PokerStars in 2014. The agreement was to allow PokerStars to serve as a subcontractor. It would have provided a platform and related services for a real-money online poker website to be licensed, owned, and operated by the tribe — that is, once California enacted legislation authorizing intrastate online poker.

While online poker legislation has been considered by California legislators for the better part of a decade, no bills have passed.

Meanwhile, the Pala Band of Mission Indians owns and operates the Pala casino. The tribe also runs Pala Interactive, which owns and operates legal and regulated online casino, bingo and poker sites in New Jersey under the Borgata’s online gambling license.

Pala also owns and operates a free-to-play social casino site available to all US players.

Pala’s MyPalaCasino online social casino launched in 2016. It features a wide variety of slots, blackjack, roulette, video poker, craps, Texas Hold’em, puzzles, and virtual sports games.

MyPalaCasino players can also earn rewards redeemable at the brick and mortar casino.
