Staff Rincon Band

SACRAMENTO – Rincon Band of Luiseño Indians Council member Laurie E. Gonzalez issued the following statement after the Joint Legislative Committee Hearing on Internet poker.

“I want to thank Assemblyman Adam Gray and Senator Isadore Hall for continuing the discussion surrounding Internet poker by holding today’s informational hearing. This hearing builds on the momentum established last month with the passage of the first Internet poker legislation from a online casino committee.

“The hearing also emphasizes the need for strong licensing and regulatory framework, an issue that the Rincon Band of Luiseño Indians has argued for years. That framework must include fraud prevention, safeguard consumers from criminal elements, and protect vulnerable populations from addiction and other costly societal casualties.

“Rincon is working with tribes and the state to find a middle ground that a majority of the stakeholders can accept. We are flexible on most issues and willing to work to reach a consensus. We urge all parties to look for common ground rather than digging their heels into the ground.”
