Marty Derbyshire Sycuan Casino

The new year brings new chances to get lucky at Southern California’s Sycuan Casino.

During January, Club Sycuan player loyalty club members can win a share of over $165,000 in cash and free play through Sycuan Casino’s Rent for a Year promotion.

The promotion includes drawings every Tuesday at 7, 8, and 9 p.m. local time throughout the entire month. Four winners will be chosen from each draw, and one will earn free rent for a year in the 9 p.m. drawing each week.

Club Sycuan members can earn one free daily entry into the drawings by swiping their players card at any promotional kiosk on the property. Players can also earn additional entries playing slots, table games, bingo, and poker at Sycuan.

Getting lucky the old-fashioned way

Of course, Sycuan is still a casino, and winning occasionally comes with the territory. One San Diego resident did that last week when he hit a $40,030 jackpot playing the Stampede Power slot machine.

Sycuan General Manager John Dinius was pleased to announce the big score:

“We love starting off the new year celebrating big wins with our guests. We have many great promotions in January and know this is going to be an exciting month at Sycuan.”

The slot jackpot win comes just weeks after one player won a massive $169,511.84 jackpot playing the Ultimate Texas Hold ‘Em table game to close out 2017.

At the time, Dinius said the casino had seen a number of big jackpot winners walk away happy from Sycuan in 2017, and he expected the trend to continue in the new year:

“The high number of jackpot winners we’ve had throughout this past year is astounding. We look forward to celebrating with many more lucky winners as we head into 2018.”

The Sycuan Casino story

Sycuan started out in 1983 as a bingo parlor on a tribal reservation in El Cajon, just east of San Diego. The property has seen a number of upgrades over the years, including a massive renovation in 2012.

The casino now features 2,000 slots, more than 40 gaming tables, poker, and bingo. More than 800 slots and table games are also housed in San Diego’s first non-smoking casino area on the property.

Sycuan also features five dining and restaurant options. This includes a casino buffet, casual casino deli, and sports bar and grill.

Additionally, Sycuan offers world-class entertainment every week inside its 457-seat entertainment venue, Sycuan Live & Up Close.

Sycuan Casino also has its own mobile app for Android and iOS devices. The app does not offer play-money or real-money casino games or online poker. However, players can access their Club Sycuan accounts and earn promotional points through the app.

While other tribal casino operators have played a major role in lobbying efforts to bring legal and regulated online poker to California, Sycuan has mostly stayed out of the process.

A $226 million expansion project

Sycuan is owned and operated by the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation.

A number of Southern California tribal casinos are currently undergoing major renovations and expansions. Sycuan Casino is on that list. The property is in the midst of a $226 million expansion.

The project includes a 12-story, 300-room hotel with an aquatic playground. It also includes a 60,000-square-foot casino floor space expansion, which will accommodate a total of 2,500 traditional slot machines, 300 bingo machines, and 80 table games.

Construction is expected to be complete in the first quarter of 2019.
